Website Upgrade: Migrating to Squarespace 7.1
-
The Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon aimed to modernize its online presence by migrating its website, feralcats.com, from Squarespace 7.0 to 7.1. The upgrade offered key benefits such as enhanced design flexibility, improved user experience, and new donation block capabilities, including recurring donations and support for multiple funds. However, the migration required meticulous attention to detail, especially given the 50-page scope and the need to rebuild the sidebar navigation manually due to template differences.
-
I conducted a detailed audit of the website to identify areas needing updates, such as navigation menus and form adjustments, and tracked these in a Google spreadsheet. The plan involved reviewing all 50 pages for manual adjustments, breaking the work into manageable phases, and prioritizing key features like the donation block to fully utilize the new platform's capabilities.

The migration process involved rebuilding the sidebar navigation manually to fit the new template structure. I also updated and optimized the content across the site for better functionality and design. The updated donation block was tested to ensure smooth processing for both one-time and recurring donations. Finally, I conducted quality checks on each page to ensure all details were addressed and nothing was overlooked.

The migration to Squarespace 7.1 resulted in a modernized, responsive design with improved navigation, enhancing the user experience. The updated donation block enabled recurring donations, multiple funds, and more design options, leading to increased donor engagement. The 7.1 platform also streamlined operations, offering greater flexibility for future updates and content management. The project was successfully completed on time, ensuring minimal disruption to the website’s online presence.
